Fashion and Fun. Thank You.

This week has been horrendous. Death, bad news, a very poorly Miss G...the works! Yesterday though there was a bit of fun news. It turns out that some kind soul has nominated me for a blog award. They are called the MAD awards and the husband couldn't stop laughing and telling me that I should win it hand down based on the fact that I live up to the 'mad' part in true style. How does he dare?!

The two categories I'm nominated for are 'Fashion and Beauty Blog' and 'Best Family Fun Blog'. This post is mainly to say a huge thank you to whomever nominated me, therefore giving me a little bit of good news in an otherwise shitty week. As I'm an honest person, I shall tell you how far things are from the two categories I'm nominated for, but your nominations make me committed to resume the normal service as soon as possible. Thank you again.

Fashion and Beauty
Miss G had a bad asthma crisis on Monday which saw us rushing to her specialist. She was coughing her guts out and looking distinctly pale. I had eyebrows that competed with Frida Kahlo and a make up free face thanks to the little miss not wanting to let go of me all day. Whilst my kid screamed the Portland Hospital down and looked as pale as a vampire, I stood next to her looking as unkept as a werewolf. The producers of Twilight would have hired us as extras in a heartbeat! (Of course we were surrounded by Bonpoint-clad kids with Chanel-clad mothers, so we really stood up for al the wrong reasons)

The doctor prescribed Miss G lots of medications and no contact whatsoever with other kids so we have been pretty much homebound for a week. Whilst suffering cabin fever, I have also suffered some major fashion no-no in the form of sweatpants, white gym socks and even ugly UGG boots. Guilty as charged! The hours spent with a tyrant toddler on a sticker-books-hype has meant that my nails now look so dry and ugly that I can pretty much peel them off and give it to her instead of the stickers. That bad, I swear. Now you can imagine my joy when I saw my nomination for the Fashion and Beauty award. Just imagine.

Best Family Fun
This week has seen us confined inside our four walls. No trips to art galleries or nice places, no 'focus on days out, activities and entertainment for families' as it states in the MAD awards description. Having said that, there has been plenty of fun, lots of it in fact, and all at my expenses! Here are a few snippets:

Miss G:   Mamma, I'm not very well *doe eyes* I NEED Orange Juice
Me:          OK, let me get it
Miss G:   I need my panda
Me:          OK, OK, let me find it
Miss G:   I need my princess dress, magic wand, slippers, rice cakes and on and on and on
Me:          *sweating in exhaustion* Here you go, Boo
Miss G:    Mamma, I'm Cinderella. You are the Queen!
Me:           Erm...I feel more like I am Cinderella slaving around you all day
Miss G:    *crossed face* *screams* No, mamma, you ARE the queen!
*thinks* *smiles* You are your majesty!
*screams* Now I need to watch TV! And more rice crackers!

3am - I let you imagine my state
Miss G:    I need a cuddle!
Me:           OK, I'm coming. Big cuddle and some medication for you.
Miss G:    I want more Calpol! I NEEED it pleeeease! I'm not very well *sobs*
Me:           I want to sleep. I NEED to sleep, but let's make do with what we have got, ok?
Miss G:    *thinks* Night Night, mamma *smiles*

10 minutes of silence. I'm nearly asleep when
Miss G:     Mamma!!! *screams louder* mamma!!! Come here!!!!
Me:            What is it?
Miss G:     I need a cuddle and you need to put the blanket on my feet
Me:            I'm exhausted G, one cuddle and then we all go back to sleep
Miss G:     *bright awake* I'm not very well...What are you doing? What is daddy doing?
Me:            I'm hoping to go back to sleep and daddy is sleeping
Miss G:     Ah, OK *thinks* but ... what are you doing? What is daddy doing?
2 hours later and this is still going on. She then sleeps in till 9 whilst the husband forgets to switch off his alarm and I am up early, my eyes are glued together and the sun is invading my living room, only to remind me that I will be homebound all day!

Whilst moaning at me that she wants to go to the creche and see her friends, it seems that Miss G has found a pet slave in me to keep herself amused this week. Of course she chose a sunny week to trap me indoor and turn me into a sleep-deprived sticker peeler, things fetcher and glorified Cinderella. Yep, I guess that the fun is still here, but it is all at my expenses this week! I shall put a change to that soon as there are plenty of fun things happening in London at the moment. Just watch this space.

Thanks again for nominating me for the MADs and for cheering me up in this ugly week. It honestly made my day yesterday. Grazie Mille!

  1. I would still say you qualify for Fashion and Beauty on the basis that you know UGGs are ugly:-)
