The Artist

I find it a bit cringeworthy when parents rave about their kids' achievements. From walking to being nappy-free or able to spell their names, the world is full of parents who think their kid is somewhat a genius for achieving these milestones with ease and much earlier than anyone else. It's a rite of passage and we've all done it at some point, including me. Eventually we realise that they will all do it, at their own pace, and competitiveness or smugness is not the name of the game.

After saying all of that, here is a post about how I think Little Miss G might be the next Picasso. Hypocrite, moi? Pas du tout! No, of course I don't think she is the next Picasso, but yesterday Miss G amazed me with a couple of artistic creations and I thought I should use my blog to document this...erm...fluke!

She chose the subjects herself. First a princess - of course! - then our family. She proceeded at painting her visions with shocking ease and insisting that I was only allowed to clean her brush when she wanted to change colour. 'Let me do it, mamma!' were her exact words.

Apologies for this proud-mummy post, but things are a bit shit (here is why), so I'm all for something that cheers me up for a little bit.

PS: Despite my positive thinking and hopeful spirit, we have not heard "all clear" and it is instead "two cycles of chemotherapy as soon as possible". I am therefore trying to use Miss G's artistic efforts as a reason to smile as, in all honesty, I am actually slowly falling apart.

  1. She really is talented! Very expressive paintings :) Aside from that, I also wanted to ask you 2 things, because I am moving to hampstead/primrose hill later this year - do you have any recommendations for restaurants in the area? And I also am looking for a gym - could you recommend one (is yours good?) Thank you!!

  2. These are very good - and by the way, as long as it's not about every freaking thing I think bragging about something special your child does is great! After all, with all the nagging it's great for me to see something remarkable through the muck of life, like you said.
Hopefully the chemo won't be too debilitating and I think it gives you free reign to brag about every little poo and pee your daughter does. I won' judge, that's for sure.! xx

  5. Fantastic pictures - I can't wait until A does some proper paintings/drawings (she's still v much of the abstract scribbles school of art at the moment). So sorry to hear you're going through a really tough time right now - thinking of you and keeping everything crossed for a positive outcome xxx
