I will explain all in forthcoming posts, but for now here is a postcard from Portofino, Italy. If you are not familiar with this tiny Italian fishing village, here are the main facts about it:
- Portofino is tiny. 'Grande come un fazzoletto' (big as a tissue) is how our hotel receptionist described it. It is in Liguria in the North West of Italy.
- Like Positano, Capri and Porto Cervo, this tiny village has been made famous by the fact that it has attracted celebrity visitors through the past decades. Of course you are not likely to see them around as they are all comfortably enjoying themselves aboard their amazing yachts.
- One of the first celebrities to discover Portofino in 1889 was the French poet Guy De Maupassant who wrote this "The yacht... glides a short distance from the rocks... then suddenly a hidden inlet reveals itself... A small village, , stretches crescent shaped along the edge of this calm bay... surrounded by woods of a deep and vivid green... Never have I experienced a sensation to rival what I felt as I entered that cove"
